Blogging is writing so it's darn hard, especially during the first week of school when I an getting to know the students in my two classes, Specialized Journalism at Radford U. and English Composition at Virginia Western Community College.
I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to teach these classes because I meet such interesting students.
But, I have to confess to them that the creative part of writing never gets easy. You can learn where to use a comma or a semicolon, but the real guts of information--tough! Now, I know why Harper Lee never wrote but one book, although many say she didn't really write "To Kill a Mockingbird," but Truman Capote did.
Gee, I don't know which did, but it was a hellava effort.

Come on, you can do it! Let's have another entry!
You're right. I can do it, but life certainly has been busy since I said I'd blog.
Now it's back on track: My mother's back at her place after a stint in the hospital and rehab, school's out, freelance work is sorta caught up, and the wild grapevines have been pulled out of the little plum tree that always gets choked each year.
So, let's blog.
I'd like to talk about what we can do, as older consumers, to get other older consumers to use drug less often and more wisely.
The marketing of drugs to consumers has created a nightmare. Not only do the medications cost a great deal (either out of pocket or via insurance), but they also can do more harm than good, especially since the FDA is apparently rather ineffective.
Now, anytime a doctor offers me a medication, I ask what the alternative treatment can be and ask that I be given the opportunity to try the alternative.
So far, so good.
Medications are wonderful when they are the only option, but shouldn't we all be wise consumers?
